Thoughts

Wild concepts with zero handholding exposition and jumping perspectives that can take a while to converge. A fun ride and I like the fact that you slowly work out how this strange world works and what all these terms mean but this can also at times make it frustrating to follow (especially in early fight scenes).

My main complaint is that the thief never really felt deserving of his reputation as the greatest great to ever greatly steal that we are led to believe he is. Sure he plays some people, but it feels hollow compared to the past exploits that are hinted at (though I suppose this could be due to the fact that he is different now compared to the thief that pulled those heists thanks to... well, the reason for this whole adventure). Isidore the detective felt the more interesting of the two and honestly I would have enjoyed a straight up mystery novel on this alien Mars starring him.

Overall, somewhere around 3.5 stars
